The Buzz Around Beeswax Candles!

I love candles, I really do! They make a room feel cosier and give me a warm fuzzy feeling that you can’t beat. I like to have a few candles going when I’m doing a puzzle, or even just when the family is watching a movie together. And I always reach for a pure beeswax candle.

I know it’s easy for me to say because I’m a beekeeper, but the wax your candle is made from matters. Really, I promise! Most candles that you buy in the store or online are made from paraffin wax, but beeswax is the gold standard! 

Let’s take a look at paraffin. Paraffin is a byproduct of refining crude oil. That means that it starts its journey underground, then is siphoned through an oil rig, shipped to a refinery, put through what is essentially a blast furnace, and is then processed with a whole bunch of chemicals to get it into a wax. At this point, the paraffin is pure white. So when you buy a paraffin candle, if it is any colour other than white, and if it has any sort of fragrance, you can be assured that there was even more processing done to it, like adding dyes or scents (which are likely to also be unnatural). Personally, I don’t want to burn any overly processed crude oil in my home! Especially not when there is a better alternative right at hand.

The beeswax candles we make are just beeswax and a wick. It’s the same beeswax you would eat if you eat honey on the comb. That’s right, if you really wanted to bite into one of our candles and eat it, the wax itself would be safe. But please do not try that, it is a choking hazard, and it will not be very tasty. But just because the candles are simple does not make them boring! The beeswax has such a beautiful golden colour that you can get lost in. And we offer our candles in so many fun and unique shapes that you might not even want to burn them, you might just want a few around to display!

But that’s not it! Beeswax is naturally scented! When we collect our sustainable beeswax, it has trace bits of honey, pollen, and even royal jelly in it. This is just a natural part of that process, but that, along with the wax itself, gives our candles a warm, relaxing, and rejuvenating natural fragrance. Of course, it is not as powerful as an artificially scented candle, you will need to hold our candle close to your nose to get the scent - I’m also sure I don’t have to say this, but please make sure the candle is not lit when you try to smell it, you don’t want to get burned.
